How to choose a high quality LED grow light

How to choose a high quality LED grow light

There is confusion of many growers : How to choose a high quality led grow light? Does the cheap light cause cheap results? How to evaluate the quality of light ?

Professional grower looks for the following features in a high-quality led grow lamp.

1. Isolated power driver.
The electronic circuit powering the LEDs is an important consideration when evaluating LED lights. The LED “driver” circuit is like an HID ballast.Isolated power  converts AC input power into DC power at the proper voltage and current level for the LEDs, while protecting the lights from electromagnetic interference , also protecting the person who would interact the lights sometimes from electric shock.
2. Large Size LED Chips
Large size chips contribute to quick heat dispelling, It has good heat resistance thus the lamp beads will not be damaged easily. The life expectancy is increased greatly.

3. High-efficiency Cooling System
Like the CPU in your PC, high-power LEDs must be cooled with a heat sink and fan. Because high-power LEDs do not radiate any heat, the metal pad provides the only path for heat to leave the LED. Heat flows from the LED die, through the metal slug, through the circuit board, into a heat sink and then out to the surrounding air.
Look for LEDs mounted on a metal-core printed circuit board (MCPCB), a space-grade technology used for operating electronics at high temperature. An MCPCB conducts hundreds of times more heat compared to the typical fiberglass circuit board. An MCPCB is required for the high power levels that LED horticultural lights endure.

4. Constant-Current Driver Circuit
Proper LED driver circuits supply a constant DC current, holding steady as the LED voltage changes with temperature. Look for the words “constant-current” in the horticultural light’s LED driver specifications.

5. Rigorous Testing
The LED lighting marketplace can be confusing. How does one separate fact from fiction when reading manufacturer claims about electrical savings and plant growth? Look to see if the manufacturer possesses an engineer groups to conduct the test for all finished products. All in all, whether greenhouse growing is your livelihood or your hobby, don’t risk the health of your crops or your budget on inadequately tested LED lights.

LED Grow Light Buying Guide

Nowadays , more and more new led grow light companies sell led grow light becasue more and more growers tent to led grow light .But some growers find the LED Grow light very satisfactory while others dont like led grow light after some trial. What casue the different views on LED grow light ? The reason is some growers know how to choose a right led grow light , but some growers dont know. Below are five tips that you should keep in mind when you decide to buy led grow light.

Actual wattage
Many suppliers claim fake or higher wattage so as to attarct customers , for example , they call 100x3w led grow light as 300w led grow light ,but actually their actual power consumption is about 185-200w ,mainly depend on the current and the ratio. So when you buy a new led , remember to ask the supplier the true wattage or current.

Features of the lights.
In order to attract the customers or get more market share ,some factories try to design different led grow light with unique features. These features include dimmers , remote control , new materials etc. Some features are good , such as dimmers , they can control the light intensity easily ,some are hard to say.
For example , the remote control , one the one hand , it make the grow more convenient ,one the other hand , the remote control technology on led grow light is not mature , it will cause much problems on the long term . So when you buy led grow light with new features , you should think twice , a light can help your plants grow great and bring you biggest harvest is a great light.

Beam angle
Now the angles of lights available on this market include sixty, ninety and one hundred and twenty degrees, the Sixty beam angle make the lights has the strongest light intensity and the 120 degree beam angles make the lights have the biggest coverage , so eith 60 degree or 120 degree , it depend on what plants you have and what you pursue .As far as I am concerned , 90 degree is the best choice.
Spectrum and ratio
There are more than 10 band available on this market , when you buy a new led grow light , tell your supplier what plants you have , then they can offer you their suggestions . Remember ,there are several wavelength are very important: blue, red , orange , IR and white .Each company has their own suggested spectrum and ratio , the best way out is you can consult several suppliers and choose the one that you like.

Warranty
The last thing you should take into consideration is warranty .
Every Led should comes with a warranty from the manufactures , generally are covered by a period of 1-3 years .Only a few companies (GEHL Lamps)have confidence in their products and they offer 5 years warranty .Look at the warranty before purchasing.

Conclusion
Keeping the above five tips in mind will help ensure that you have a great experience with your LED growing light.

LED Grow Light Advantages For Indoor Cannabis Growing

Why Use LED Grow Light For Cannabis Growing Indoors

In the last decade LED technology has advanced significantly and is now available as an alternative to incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) bulbs for various lighting needs. Numerous studies and field test have resulted in several practical uses for LEDs.
Among the many uses of LEDs is their ability to grow plants indoors without the need for any sunlight. LEDs offer many advantages when it comes to growing various plants indoors, especially for the cannabis indoor grow
1) Low consumption
LEDs consume a fraction of the electricity, as much as 70% less. LEDs are what is known as “luminous efficient”, meaning they use electricity very efficiently to produce light. In a lab setting LED light was shown to have an efficiency of anywhere from 150+ lumens per watt, with top end CREE lights obtaining 254 lumens per watt. Comparatively, a standard HPS lamp will have an efficiency of 100 lumens per watt. What this means today is that some of the high end LED systems can save a grower 50% on electricity bills compared to the use of an HPS system both good for your wallet, and the planet.

2) Near zero heat signature.
LED grow lights give off less than 10% of the heat that a high intensity discharge bulb such as high-pressure sodium (HPS) or metal halide (MH) bulbs do.As a result LED lights can be placed 30 - 45cm above the cannabis plants, helping prevent stretch. Comparatively, HID lights have to be 60 - 90cm above the plants to prevent them from causing heat stress. Another advantage of this is that because LEDs produce very little heat, there is obviously no need to invest in an extensive cooling system. Particularly in large grows, where often tens of thousands of watts are heating the building, the difference in the utility bill will make a compelling argument.

3)Colour spectrums
LED grow light diodes have a blend of only the wavelengths that are needed in the correct ratios necessary for cannabis photosynthesis. These wavelengths are mainly the reds, oranges and blues in the 580-630nm and 420-470nm ranges. LED grow lights have gone through several iterations and the most effective grow lights now include white ,ultraviolet and infrared diodes as well. The best LED grow lights come from companies that have tested various blends of diodes and formulated optimal diode ratios that best mimic the photosynthetic action radiation necessary for plant growth.

What puts LED above HID/HPS lights is that these LEDs are able to produce the maximum peak spectral output of a specific colour, something a HID light cannot obtain. This means that high quality LEDs output a much better quality of light than an equivalent HID - allowing cannabis plants under an LED light set to the right spectrum will be able to perform photosynthesis more ideally than cannabis plants placed under a HID/HPS bulb.

4) Lifespan
LED lights last about 100 times as long as light bulbs and 6-7 times as long as compact fluorescent lights.Unlike HPS/HID , growers dont need to change the bulbs again , again and again, it saves time and money.

LED grow lights have truly come of age and indoor growers are finally able to take advantage of this technology to grow green and grow more efficiently than they have ever been able to before.

Dimmable 1200W Noah LED grow light

Contact: Chris.Gehlled@Gmail.com

First impressions of Noah 4 Grow Monster
I receive my Noah 4 one day earlier than i expected. It took 11 days from when I first order it to receiving it, Super fast delivery as well, well done for getting this to me so quick. The unit arrived in a very well packaged box in side a box, it was very strong and thick, I'm happy it made it here to me safely.
The Noah unit is extremely sturdy and feel very well made, the hanging hooks are very solid .I'm liking the glass on the front with the black shell, it looks cool.
The cooling fans are the quietest I've seen so far, well done.
The dimmer dials feel very good between my fingers, nice and smooth, also very solid feel to them at the same time. I also like the big power on/off button, my fingers can't miss :) lol.
I'm Very impressed with the different spectrum of light I can make Noah, the colours are amazing! When I open the panel up everything looked good inside, all the wiring looked nice and neat, and correctly labeled.I like the massive amount of heat-sink area inside the panel, this panel was very easy to open up and service, which make my life easier.
Overall I'm really impressed with my Noah 4 and the customer service I received was excellent, can wait to see some results :)
As you can see my grow space is a wardrobe, size is H 200cm W 97cm D 50cm I made it myself, it's a wardrobe like any other and then it's customized with MDF wood to create a sealed box. Then the Electrics are then installed. This grow box is meant to be stealth so not to arouse suspicion.
I have used the top 40cm of the wardrobe as a fan and filter box, this is needed to extract and then clean stale smelly air that is expelled from the grow room, as well as quieten the noise from the extraction fan.
I'm using a 125mm rhino carbon filter and 125mm rvk extraction fan and a silencer to perform this task. I'm using 2x quite PC fans for intake, and some fans inside in grow area to circulate air, I also have two 1ft bar heater on timers for when the ambient temps are cold at winter time. I only have 140cm from the bottom of the light to the grow room floor.

At 4 day with Noah,the plants are around 18 days from seed
Noah 4 grow light review day 1-7
The seedling I started with are around 15 days old and i started to grow them near a window.
Day 1. Dimmer-A blues. Dimmer-B white green IR orange . Dimmer-C integrated.
I have decided to place the Noah 4 about 100cm away as they are very young and start with the following  Dimmer setting A 80% B 20% C 20%.
I will then decrease the distance of the plant from the light as they adjust to the new light.
The plants are on 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness each day.
Day 4 I have moved the light down to 60 cm and lowered to dimmer setting A 60% B% 40 C 20%.
I will try and keep light around 60cm and up the power as the plants get a little older.
Day 6 dimmer settings are now A- 70% B-40% C-20% at 60cm.

Leaf span is getting larger every day, so that's a good start, and I think they should start to grow a little faster this week as they have settled into there new pots.
Please don't pay too much attention at plant hight yet as I re-potted them and also when I water the soil compacts a little and when it drys the soil rises a little, this will sort itself out soon.
And on day 4 I moved a little top soil from skunk1 and placed into skunk2 to even the soil level. This this why plant hight is up and down.

At the moment everything seams to be going alright, not much goes on this early into the grow and normally is a little boring compared to flowering. However as I'm experimenting and recording my data it's much more interesting.

Please note that plant height is a little up and down as to watering compacting the soil and then the soil rises a little when it dries again, also the plants leaves move up and down a little too.

S1and s2 had water on day 11. All seams well at the moment plants look heathy, plants have very tight internodes( space between each set of branches or leaves) lots of potential budding areas,as you can see In photos.
My plants aren't very tall considering how many internodes they have, this is good as I don't want my plants getting too tall to quick. (stretching)
The more internodes per foot I get the better, as I would prefer smaller dense plants than larger thinner ones, If I   wanted to stretch the internodes out a little I would lower the watts or rise the lamp higher.

Day 13 violator Kush and skunk 1-2 had water, also moved light and plants apart to 70 cm as they have grow closer to the light, I then will let them grow till they are around 55 cm away from light and then adjust hight again.

Next week I might add node count to the data chart as its relevant and would go well with plant hight when comp-aring the data. So far I'm impressed with Noah and I think it has all the power and spectrums to preform real well.Very excited to see what happens.

Day 15 all plants had water, this week I'm adding node count to the chart so I can record how many new sets I get, this figure is from main stem only, this would of been more beneficial to have started recording this earlier. Plants look really heathy. Day 17 water all plants, Day 20 all plants have been repotted into 6.4L pot , this will affect plant height again and also should slow down growth for a day or two.

Day 21 under Noah

Hey guys, as my work has been busy lately, my company has been developing a new product for the recycling industry, and been working overseas in Belgium, even though stop updating midway, they still get along well with each other, lol.

Noah 4 has produced some really great mmj now, I think I can be on my 2nd grow with it!
